Welcome to Circumcision Montreal. On this site you will find information about circumcision for babies, boys, and adult men of all ages. Our goal is to make it simple for you to get the info and services you may require.
Baby circumcision is commonly done relatively early in the life of your boy.
Procedures completed in the first four weeks are considered newborn circumcisions.
If you have taken the decision to have your son circumcised it is recommended to schedule the procedure as soon as possible in his young and new life.
You can contact Circumcision Montreal to confirm our next available appointment. Appointments are usually available within a few days.
Our experienced medical team will exceed your expectations for quality of care.
Circumcising Your Baby at Our Clinic
Circumcision Montreal was founded by Dr. Murray Katz and Dr. Neil Pollock. Dr. Katz is well known in Montreal as one of the leading urology practitioners and performed tens of thousands of baby circumcisions over his career. Dr. Katz is now retired from active practice and is not available for appointments.
Dr. Pollock is one of Canada’s most experienced circumcision providers and he has safely completed over 35,000 infant circumcisions over the last two decades. Infant circumcision is our specialty and no other clinic in Montreal has similar experience in circumcising baby boys.
The medical team has been carefully trained by Dr. Pollock and we are proud to carry on the legacy of Dr. Katz in providing safe and simple access to infant circumcision in Montreal. Our team doctors and nurses will support you after the circumcision surgery with a hotline for questions and detailed instructions on post-circumcision care for your baby son.
The Circumcision Montreal Experience
The focused practice of our clinic permits us to optimize the circumcision procedure as well as the overall experience. Having served thousands of babies and families we have developed specialized systems and processes to offer these services better than any other institution.
Preparations for Your Baby’s Procedure
You will receive detailed instruction on how to prepare your son for the 30 second operation. This includes how to best time feeding before surgery to maximize your babies comfort. Babies will have Tylenol before and after surgery, and are given a sugary pacifier to distract and entertain them during the procedure. Some babies even sleep through the whole thing.
Post-Circumcision Follow Up
Guidance and follow-up continues afterwards, with written and verbal instructions on how to provide care after the circumcision. The goal is to minimize your child’s discomfort and promote healing. You will be shown how to minimize the risk of infection and informed of warning signs to watch for in case of any complications. Our doctors are available by phone after surgery and will respond quickly to any questions or concerns.
A Baby Circumcision Clinic
When looking for the right facility for your son’s circumcision, please consider that the techniques for providing this surgery are only as safe as the operating physician’s experience – which translates to the actual number of circumcisions that the physician has carried out. By this standard, our specialized “mini baby circumcision hospital” is a clear choice.
Hospital Circumcision Procedures
Montreal hospitals do not generally offer baby circumcision for newborns. Some hospitals have offered circumcisions for infants before mother and baby leave the maternity ward in the past, but this is no longer the case in most hospitals.
Where to Get an Infant Circumcision
It is possible to get the operation in a hospital on an outpatient basis, but these institutions cannot offer the service level and experience of a specialized private clinic. Large institutions manage hundreds of different services and must prioritize urgent situations over hospital circumcisions.
Benefits of Circumcising Babies
Baby circumcisions are generally requested for cultural and religious reasons. Some parents also decide to circumcise thier young baby boys due to cosmetic and personal reasons. The imporant thing is to make an informed decision that you will be happy with.
The Pollock Method of Baby Circumcision – How we do it.
The Pollock Technique is known for its quickness (30 seconds) and safety. Dr. Pollock has considered even the smallest details including increasing room temperature and playing soothing music.
To keep your son comfortable both during and after the procedure, our doctors will use several pain control methods including Tylenol, sugar filled gauze pacifiers soaked with sweet juice for additional comfort and a topical freezing cream.
To ensure the most comfort for your son, we employ a local anesthetic technique that is a combination of both short and long acting anesthetic. This method provides comfort and coverage for both the procedure and for several hours after. All this ensures that your son will feel little or no pain at all.
The entire newborn circumcision takes under 30 seconds.
1. A profile of the uncircumcised penis with the foreskin covering the glans (head of the penis).
2. The same penis as in Figure 1 but drawn as if the foreskin was transparent. Here you can see the foreskin in relation to the inner side of the foreskin and the glans. Notice the adhesions along the inner side of the glans. These are present at birth in almost all babies and must be released before the actual circumcision.
3. The same penis following the circumcision. Notice that the cut edge of the skin retracts to just behind the back rim of the glans. This is the site of healing.
Other Circumcision Methods Used Elsewhere
There are several methods of circumcising babies practiced in Canada today. The Pollock Method used at Circumcision Montreal is fast and safe, with newborn circumcisions completed in safety in 30 seconds. Other methods used elsewhere include:
Gomco Clamp Operation – No, we don’t use this method
The Gomco Clamp operation is the most common technique used by general practicioner physicians. It requires much longer to perform and involves much more tissue handling. The technique involves compression of the foreskin for five minutes prior to incision.
The gomco clamp method is common – but more complicated
The clamp is left in place long enough to allow clotting to occur, then the foreskin is removed using a scalpel. The clamp’s base and bell are then removed from the penis. The clamp itself must be rigorously sterilized prior to surgical use. Circumcision Montreal does not use this method.
Plastibell Circumcision – No, we don’t use this method.
The Plastibell Circumcision Device is a clear plastic ring with a deep groove running circumferentially designed for circumcising infant males. The Plastibell is placed onto the head of the penis during a 10-minute surgical procedure, and the device will fall off within 3 to 7 days (from Wikipedia). Circumcision Montreal does not use this method.
The Pollock Technique is preferred
General practitioner physicians may employ the plastibell but the experienced newborn circucision experts here at Circumcision Montreal prefer the Pollock Technique for its’ relative speed and safety.
